Introduction

DMD2 Silence Checker is a windows application that perdiodically checks icecast and shoutcast mountpoints and 'listens' to the datastream. When silence is detected, a e-mail alert is sent. Why shall a mountpoint be monitored for silence? Well, sometimes the encoders we use somewhat stop transmitting signal, hence they don't disconnect and the fallback files don't apply.

Installation

The Binaries can be downloaded by Oddsock's website: http://oddsock.org/alex/dmdsilencechecker The configuration of the application is self-explanatory. In the **configuration** dialog, one must enter following informations:

• Poll Time (in Minutes) --> 10 Minutes
• Automatic Start --> checked
• Silence Threshold --> 15
• Minutes between alerts --> 15
• Alert URL --> leave blank
• Email settings --> enter smtp-server, username, password. secure smtp is not supported.

Configuration

the monitored urls can be configured by right-clicking into the main window. a name for every channel is required, followed by the streaming URL (without .pls or .m3u). Use only the hostname when liveserver is located in the LAN for reduced WAN bandwith.

Limitations

• Right now, the silence checker is a windows application whose shortcut is placed in the Startup Folder of the majestaetix user of virtual idefix. It cannot be configured as a service
• Only MP3 streams can be monitored due to some limitations of the used bass.dll library. AAC+ streams cannot be monitored.
